Information on the BACKUP UTILITY
=================================

This is the BACKUP UTILITY for Account.

For installation instructions, please refer to "Install.txt".

Backing up your bank account information
----------------------------------------

a. Open the account that you wish to back up.

b. Press Acorn-E (or Psion-E) to call up the "Extensions" list.

c. Choose "Backup utility".

d. You will be asked to confirm the backup. The display will
also list the name provided when you created the account just
so you are sure you are backing up the desired account.
   To proceed, press 'Y'.

e. The next thing you will see is a message at the lower right
of the screen saying "Extension module 'BACKAEXT' unloaded..."
   and the display will redraw.

Backup is complete.

NOTE: 1. Backups are placed in the same directory as the account
data files themselves. This is intended as a backup
method to be used on the organiser itself - the best way
to back up your data is using PsiWin's backup facility.
      2. You are not prompted if you are overwriting older backups.

Restoring from a backup
-----------------------

This process MUST be performed manually, to guard against unwanted
restorations.

This assumes you know how to use the filesystem dialogue to copy,
delete, and rename files. If you don't, please refer to your
organiser's user guide.

a. Quit Account.

b. In the Desktop (System) screen, highlight the account that you
would like to restore, then press Tab.

c. The file access dialogue will appear.

Each account has three files. The NAME part of the file is the
same in each case; while the EXTENSION will be ".acc" or ".cfg"
   or ".reg".

d. Ensure that three OTHER files are present, same name only this
time with the extensions ".abk", ".cbk", and ".rbk".
If these files are not present, there is no backup available.

e. Delete (or move, or rename) the ".acc", ".cfg", and ".reg" files.

f. Rename the following files by changing the file extension:
     ".abk" becomes ".acc"
     ".cbk" becomes ".cfg"
     ".rbk" becomes ".reg"

g. Restart Account with the newly restored account data.

You may find it easier to use PsiWin as it gives a Windowsy
interface to the organiser's files. Alternatively, on the
organiser itself, you might find it easier to use my "RShell"
utility (not the 'tiny' version) to manipulate the files.

If you would like to have a "Restore" option built in to the
Backup Utility, contact me...
